It is – honestly – a bit of a rocky start. Most manga I’ve read starts out on the rougher end of the art department but, perhaps due to it not being her first work, Black Butler doesn’t suffer from this at all. Toboso has her own style and everything is lavish and elegant from the boys to the desserts. The action scenes are a bit messy (typical of manga) but the character and background drawings are some of the best I’ve seen. The art style is polished and beautiful from the very first volume – which is a rare feat. It is still (when I’m writing this post anyway) a continuing series which is wonderful longevity. Despite being published in 2007, Black Butler holds up as well, if not better, than many of the other classics from that time. This is a series I have been meaning to read for over a decade and finally, a friend pushed me into getting around to it. humans will drag others down in order to get what they want even in death.'
